PNGRFL Reappoints CEO Stanley Hondina for Second Term

Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) Chairman Sandis Tsaka has announced the reappointment of PNGRFL Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Stanley Hondina for another three-year term. Hondina, who was initially appointed as CEO in 2021 after serving as acting CEO for three months, will continue in his leadership role.

According to Tsaka, the PNGRFL board was pleased with the progress made under Hondina’s leadership over the past three years. He highlighted key achievements, including the implementation of three strategic plans, the success of the PNG NRL Bid, and the revival of participation and affiliations within the sport after the COVID-19 pandemic. Tsaka emphasized that Hondina had played a vital role in establishing systems and processes that would have lasting benefits for the organization.


The PNGRFL Chairman stated that Hondina had undergone performance appraisals and reviews throughout his tenure, reaffirming the board’s confidence in his ability to lead the organization forward. He further noted that Hondina had demonstrated strong leadership, advisory, and management skills across different levels of the game, backed by years of experience in sports administration.

Hondina’s reappointment took effect on February 17, 2025, following a review and agreement by the PNGRFL Board. Expressing his gratitude for the continued trust placed in him, Hondina stated that he remained committed to the growth and development of rugby league in PNG. He acknowledged the responsibility of the role and reaffirmed his dedication to the sport’s players, officials, and volunteers.

He also emphasized the importance of building systems and processes aligned with the organization’s vision of “Better People, Better Sport, Better Nation.” Hondina thanked the PNGRFL executive management team and staff for their hard work and commitment to this vision.

Before becoming CEO, Hondina served as PNG National Rugby League Competition Manager from 2017 to 2020. He has a background in accounting and previously worked as an auditor in both government and private sectors, including the Auditor General’s Office and Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, for a total of five years.
