The upgrading of Sir Hubert Murray Stadium will now go ahead after the National Court ruled in favor of the government.
Fireworks were displayed on Thursday as the celebration begins to welcome the new state of the art stadium which was set to be completed in 14 months and ready for the 2015 Pacific Games.
The Stadium will also become the home of weightlifting as well as other necessary amenities required.
The stadium was once a host to the 1969 Games as well as the opening and closing ceremony of the 1991 Pacific Games.
The construction work was awarded to Curtain Brothers under the private-public partnership.
The national government budgeted K11 million for the project, while Curtain Brothers will provide labour and machinery free of charge.
Present at the occasion were the sporting dignitaries including the 2015 Pacific Games Committee.
