Two men arrested for trying to smuggle marijuana to Port Moresby
The incident occurred at the Goroka Airport over the Queen’s birthday long weekend. An eye witness during the time of incident said airport security became suspicious when they saw odd-looking travelling bags. They questioned two men over the ownership, and one said it wasn’t theirs, the other said it was, that’s when the security knew something was not right.
Upon inspection, the jackpot, marijuana parcels were rolled up in newspapers amongst the clothing. In all, ten rolls, weighing 2.75 kgs each, a total of 27.5 kilograms of drugs impounded.
The two men are said to be from Sepik and Kavieng. They were trying to smuggle the drugs to Port Moresby. They are currently being held at the Goroka police station.
Drug trafficking is a major concern at all ports throughout Papua New Guinea, and this is just one isolated case out of the many busts around the country.
