UPNG Lecturer hospitalized after Police bashing

A lecturer at the University of Papua New Guinea, Mr Francis Essy is now in Port Moresby General Hospital with a fractured skull and injuries to other parts of the body.
Another final year physics student is also recovering from severe damages to his head and face after they were beaten up by NCD Police at the Manu Service Station, on Saturday Morning.
Mr Essy is now calling on the police hierarchy to investigate the matter as he was innocent of any crime.
The School of Business Administration lecturer, from Sinesine in Chimbu Province was with three male students refueling when the police approached them at the service station and demanded to check their vehicle.
According to Mr Essy and two of the students Peter Essy and Lester Joseph, the policemen who came on a white double Cab Ute with license plate BBU 681 were apparently drunk and ordered them to go to Hohola Police station, though nothing suspicious was found in their car.
However, when Mr Essy asked what crime he had committed, the policemen rang up for back up and a blue ten seater with the plate number BDX 314 arrived with 11 more policemen and started hitting and punching all of them.
Mr Essy was hit on the head with a piece of brick resulting in a concussion, and says he only remembers waking up in the Hospital. Mr Essy says this week is crucial as he was to mark the exam papers of his students.
The father of five says he wants the Police to do an investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Andy Bawa said he has not received any information on that incident and has asked the lecturer and reliable witnesses to lay the complaint.
Bawa also reassured the victim that no one is above the law and rogue officers will be dealt with.
