Papua New Guineans told to apply for Australian Awards Scholarships
Papua New Guineans have less than a week to submit their applications for Australia Awards scholarships for study in Australia in 2016.
Applications for Australia Awards close on 16 February 2015. Australia Awards contribute to PNG’s long term development needs by awarding scholarships in areas that align with PNG and Australia’s development partnership priorities including education, health, infrastructure and law and justice.
The scholarships are highly competitive with selection based on academic ability, leadership, employment record, the developmental benefit of the proposed field of study, and overall preparedness to study in Australia. At least 50 per cent of Australia Awards are awarded to women.
Speaking to a meeting of the Business and Professional Women’s club on 7 February, Australia’s High Commissioner to PNG, Ms Deborah Stokes, has encouraged young women to make a difference to their community by applying for an Australia Award.
Potential applicants can visit www.australiaawards.org.pg to find out about application requirements or visit the Australia Awards PNG Information Centre. The Centre is located in Port Tower, Hunter St, Port Moresby, and is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 4.30pm.
