Plane crash in Madang
A single-engine aircraft belonging to Madang-based Island Airways crash-landed in a remote airstrip in the Usino-Bundi district this morning.
Two passengers were on board.
A company spokesperson confirm this afternoon that there were only two passengers onboard, one of them a primary school headmaster.
He said company executive were in a meeting with the Civil Aviation Authority this afternoon and will release a full detail on the accident later when they collected all necessary information from the crash site.
Madang Governor, Jim Kas has responded immediately to the accident by chartering a helicopter to evacuate the pilot and the two passengers to the hospital this afternoon.
Reports from the Governor's office revealed the headmaster may have sustained a broken collar bone from the impact of the crash.
