PNG Air lands in Nadzab airport
As part of its re-branding exercise, the new look PNG AIR, which is the former Airlines PNG; this morning kick started its latest aircraft, the ATR 72-600 to Nadzab airport. The ATR 72 is a twin-engine turboprop short-haul regional airliner built by the French-Italian aircraft manufacturer ATR. The aircraft seats up to 74 passengers in a single-class configuration, and is operated by a two-pilot crew. Designed carefully with traditional touches from all over Papua New Guinea, the ATR received an emotional, yet exciting welcome at the Nadzab Airport by staff and onlookers. The new aircraft received a wash down as it entered the Nadzab Domestic Terminal, with traditional dancers and anxious staff awaiting the arrival of an almost new beginning. On ground staff were also given a brief run-down of the ATR while at the same time meeting the Management team who had travelled to Lae with the media team. PNG AIR staffs were also proud of show off their new uniforms and new signage at the Nadzab terminal. CEO, Muralee Siva says the greatest strength of the airline has been the staff and their commitment over the years. The new aircraft came at a cost of more than 20 million US dollars and by 2020, PNG Air will own at least 12 ATR replacing the old aircrafts. Airline fares will not change at this stage.
