Polye does not condone violence against woman
PORT MORESBY:Another rape and robbery case, involving two female students at a nursing college within a space of 28-days after the much-publicized Kokoda incident, is something the Opposition cannot condone.
This incident occurred last Sunday at the wee hours in Lae Nursing College, Morobe province.
Opposition Leader Don Pomb Polye said he was riled by the news then, branding it as ‘an act of those who lack emotional skills to live in a normal society like ours.’
Mr Polye also alluded Morauta One rape incident in Port Moresby, where the members of the public, including leaders, who condemned it.
“It is a sign and symptom of a country with a rise in law and order problem, and erosion of morality.
“I doubt the Prime Minister and his ministers responsible are aware of this lawlessness,” he said.
Mr Polye queried whether they were waiting for their own relatives to become victims so that they would take appropriate actions.
“How would the culprits feel if their own relatives suffered a similar ordeal?
“What kind of sense does such an immoral act make to those, who themselves have wives, sisters, daughters, aunties and nieces?” askedan irritated Polye.
Mr Polye, a father of daughters himself, said he did not tolerate such immortal act, adding it would haunt the victims for a long time or if not their lifetime.
“No one can suppress the freedom of movement for our girls and women anywhere in the country with threats of rape and robbery or even assault.
“From the Opposition, we will push for heavy penalties against those involved,” he said.
He has urged fellow citizens to respect women folks to create a better society in the 21st century.
Meanwhile, Mr Polye hailed Lae Metropolitan Commander Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Junior and his officers for making a quick arrest on the suspects.
He also commended Wagambie’s NCD counterpart and his men for identifying suspects in Morauta incident and made some arrests.
