Samoa tourism numbers continue to grow
Tourism numbers in Samoa for the 2nd Quarter of the current financial year are steady and have only increased by 1.8% when compared to the same period in the previous financial year.
As was the case last year, the increase was driven by minor growths for October and December with November again being the slow month achieving no growth in numbers
Holiday and VFR (visiting friends and relatives) visitors contributed the most to the overall increase in terms of overall numbers as is the norm for the holiday season although the Business category achieved the most overall growth of 23% driven largely by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) meeting that Samoa hosted in early December.
According to the February issues of the Samoa Tourism Monthly Newsletter, the NZ Market continues to perform well for the Quarter and achieved the biggest increase in overall numbers for the quarter with 1237 visitors but their ever improving US Market recorded the biggest net growth of 14%.
Tourism Earnings grew by 2.3% which is a slightly higher overall growth relative to the growth in the numbers for the period under review.
This is mainly due to the increase in business visitors as well as visitors from Samoa’s Asian and European markets that traditionally have higher spend per visit.
