PNG Opposition calls on Police Commissioner Gary Baki to step down
The Papua New Guinea Opposition has expressed their disgust at Police Commissioner, Gary Baki’s handling of the arrest warrant of Prime Minister, Peter O’NEILL.
This was relayed during a Press Conference yesterday.
Leader of the Opposition, Patrick Pruiatch, said that since the National Courts decision to lift the stay order on the arrest warrant on Tuesday, Baki’s conduct has clearly demonstrated a conflict of interest.
This was seen in his delay in acting on the arrest warrant when the stay order was lifted.
The Alliance is now demanding that the Commissioner step aside or deligate one of his Deputy Commissioners to handle the matter.
Former Attorney General and Sina Sina Yongomugl Member, Kerenga KUA also stated that the ALLIANCE will be laying a complaint to the PNG Law Society against the three lawyers who applied for the stay order which was granted by Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia yesterday.
