NBC Chairman rebutts allegations of Corruption
Board Chairman of the National Broadcasting Corporation, Timothy Tala, says 'his term as Chairman has not expired.'
Mr Tala responded in a statement to allegations regarding his contract, which the Deputy Opposition Leader and South Bougainville MP Timothy Masiu raised in Parliament on Tuesday.
He says he was not self-appointed, but that the National Executive Council had re-appointed him for a second term which ends in July 2020.
Mr Tala says the NBC management has provided a brief on this to Communications Minister, Rainbo Paita, however, he alleges that someone is misleading the Minister.
Mr Tala further says allegations of corruption over the sale of a piece of land next to the NBC Headquarters are also not true.
He says the NBC had followed all processes working with other government departments and agencies in the sale.
Mr Tala says sale of the land will allow the NBC to build a new office building.
