PNG Govt commits K1 billion for Bougainville

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape says his government is working to restore trust with the people and government of Bougainville.

This was part of his remarks when he addressed the Bougainville House of Representatives this afternoon.

Mr Marape also announced that the National Executive Council had endorsed a K1bn economic funding for the region for the next ten years.

The prime minister also assured that the autonomous region will be given all its full revenue-raising powers.

President John Momis welcomed Mr Marape and the national government's commitment, stressing that all efforts must be mustered into achieving the Bougainville Peace Agreement.

Meantime, President Momis also annnounced that the Joint Supervisory Meeting between the national government and the ABG will take place in Buka tomorrow and not in Buin as originally planned.
