PNG Government's Budget will bring Hardships : O'Neill
Former Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, the leader of People's National Congress Party says the 2020 budget is expected to bring hardship to the people.
“It’s a budget with no substance and will bring tremendous hardship to our people with the International Monetary Fund-led structural adjustment programme being proposed with additional loan conditions including the devaluation of the kina which will increase the cost of imported goods such as rice and flour.”
He said the change to the tuition fee-free policy his government introduced in 2012 would affect parents.
“On cuts in schools subsidy (50 per cent cut in tuition fee-free), parents will be hard hit,” he said.
“It is a budget that simply does not care for the simple people.”
