Stranded PNG Citizens overseas to flown back to the country by Friday : Marape
About 500 PNG citizens stranded in Australia will be flown back into the country by Friday this week, the earliest.
Prime Minister James Marape apologizes to these citizens, most of whom could not return to PNG due to the SOE restriction on incoming flights.
Because of restrictions on domestic flights within Australia from one state to another, these PNG citizens are all over Australia.
Therefore, Mr Marape says pickup spots will be organized in Australia’s main cities for the stranded citizens to an airport of exit either in Cairns or Brisbane.
Marape adds upon arrival in PNG, these citizens will undergo 14 days of quarantine before they are allowed back into the society.
The government is now talking to hotels and guest houses for a cheaper rate to house them.
The Prime Minister says this process must be observed to stop any possible spread of COVID-19.
