Security beefed Up, Court Ruling later today

Security has been beefed up at the entrance to the Waigani courthouse this morning.

Police personnel'  who have been flown in from the Highlands region are out in full force, and the area has been cordoned.

The entrance to Parliament is also heavily manned and blocked off.

This is in preparations for the Supreme Court reference filed by Ialibu Pangia MP Peter ONeill questioning the powers of the Speaker to reconvene parliament on the 17th of November, 2020.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court hearing on the legality of the November 17 parliament sitting has been adjourned to 12:30pm this afternoon.

The five-men bench will be able to make a ruling by then on applications filed by interested parties to become interveners in the matter questioning the legality of a Parliament Sitting that led to the passing of the 2021 National Government Budget at 12:30pm today.

After the court makes a ruling on who should be accepted as parties to this case, it is expected to proceed with the substantive matter.
