PNG Star Elsie Albert Shines as Parramatta Eels’ Best in 2024
Papua New Guinea rugby league star Elsie Albert has been recognized as the Parramatta Eels’ 2024 NRLW Player of the Year. The award was presented during the team’s NRLW Awards Night held in Sydney on Wednesday, celebrating the achievements of their women's squad.
The Eels had a standout NRLW season in 2024, winning five out of nine games under the guidance of new coach Steve Georgallis. Albert, 28, made an impressive return from injury, playing a pivotal role in all nine matches. She averaged 127 run metres, 18 tackles, and five tackle breaks per game, with a 93% tackle efficiency. Albert also scored two tries, both coming in a match-winning performance against the Titans in Round 7.

Abbi Church was another big winner of the night, securing the Blue & Gold Army Award for the second year in a row and being named Players’ Player. Church had an outstanding season, leading the team in both attack and defence, averaging 158 run metres per game and contributing key defensive efforts throughout the year.
Rachael Pearson was honored with the Coaches Award for her outstanding contributions throughout the season. Pearson, playing at halfback, showcased excellent game management and kicking abilities, recording eight try assists, five forced dropouts, three 40/30s, and 22 goals for the Eels.
Rory Owen was awarded NRLW Rookie of the Year for her stellar debut season. The centre made a strong impact by scoring five tries in nine games, including vital tries in wins over the Broncos, Titans, and Raiders. The recognition came just days after she re-signed with the Eels.
Mahalia Murphy, the Eels captain, earned the Community Award for her off-field efforts, including hosting community training sessions in Western Sydney and volunteering as a personal trainer for Indigenous health initiatives.
The evening also marked the recognition of the Eels’ inaugural Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership (HNWP) team, with Losalio Sita Payne being named HNWP Player of the Year, while Ryshe Fa'amausili took home the Coaches Award.
The Eels congratulated all the award recipients and acknowledged the contributions of the players, coaches, and staff who supported the women’s program in 2024.
