It later became an administrative centre for the Papua New Guinea (PNG) under the Australian Administration and the base where Port Moresby city was built from.
Rabona, who was speaking during the PNG Women in Business Conference held outside Port Moresby over the weekend, said the project is not a big commercial tourism project, but about rebuilding the history of Port Moresby and with it attract tourist.
“We want to create a tourist attraction that has historical meaning, and at the same time build the culture of the Motu Koitabu people that has died out when the city was built,” she said.
“We are hoping to get government support and we have done a lot to ground work already. We planning on what it should look like and we are also planning on putting up a museum and amphitheatre to also showcase our culture to tourist when they come to visit.”
She added by doing this, they not only promote tourism in the city and preserve history, but also bring in good development and service to especially the people of Motu Koitabu and the city as well.
The project is the biggest for the Foundation and it started back in October this year.
