Indonesian Darmasiswa Scholarship Scheme, Excellent Opportunity for Papua New Guinea.

By Sebastian Yuwette  - Soegijapranata Catholic University
Indonesian Darmasiswa Scholarship Scheme offered by the Indonesian government to Papua New Guinea students is an ideal opportunity for every young man and woman who wished to study programs offered under this scholarship scheme in different universities throughout Indonesian cities. This scholarship scheme is offered to foreign students from countries which Indonesia has a diplomatic bilateral relations with.

I am one of the proud recipients of this ongoing scholarship scheme from Papua New Guinea, currently studying Food Science & Technology at Soegijapranata Catholic University, Semarang City, Central Java.
Realistically, this current scholarship program is creditable and beneficial to Papua New Guineans, as it will continue to strengthen and foster the bilateral relationship we already had with Indonesia. We also need to appreciate the fact that, The Republic of Indonesia is the only country which shared a common land border with Papua New Guinea, which may likely to reduce impediments in development perspectives within both countries in the near future. This scholarship scheme does not only enhance mutual understanding and provide stronger cultural links but, it also enriches skills and creates job opportunities for young Papua New Guineans in a long term.

To encourage and embrace young anticipating students in such programs, concerned authorities in Papua New Guinea should further design concepts and facilitate necessary need areas which are not included in the program. It is equally essential and vital to focus on effective version of orientation, coordination and counseling to avoid inconsistencies abroad before any scholarship awardee leaves the country. These does not only encourage recipients but avoids so-called disreputable characters by student ambassadors on study missions abroad.
