Police Officer in court for brutalizing a Street Vendor to death in Port Moresby

A police officer  alleged to have been involved in the killing of a betel-nut vendor at Rainbow in the Port Moresby, appeared before the Waigani Committal Court this morning.

The alleged incident occurred on September 16 this year.

The named police officer was arrested and charged with one count of wilful murder.

Its alleged that police were patrolling the area and chased the deceased, from Enga Province, all the way to the Port Moresby National High School.

He tried to jump over the fence to the main road, however, he got trapped on the sharp spike edges of the iron fence.

Its alleged that the accused started pulling down the deceased, and in the event of pulling him down, his stomach was then ripped opened by the sharp spike edges of the fence, and he fell to the ground.

Its further alleged that he was also assaulted while he was lying on the ground.

Meantime, his matter has been adjourned to November 5, 2019, as police investigation into the matter continues.
