Port Moresby Police raid Settlement, bullests and stolen weapon recovered

A high powered police issued firearm which was stolen when three policemen were brutally attacked by settlers at the Marawaka block at 8 mile settlement on Sunday night was returned to police this morning and 20 suspects allegedly involved in the attack were rounded up and detained at the Saraga police Station.

Community leaders presented the firearm to NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N'Dranou at 6am this morning.

Police also recovered 45 rounds of 9mm bullets and a large quantity of parched marijuana plants inside several make shift houses raided by police this morning.

The make shift structures used as havens for drug peddlers and suspected criminals were burned down in this morning's raid.

The three injured policemen attached to the NCD Fox unit were attacked inside the settlement when they went in pursuit of a prime suspect involved in the dubious business of peddling and selling large quantities of cannabis.

The aggressive settlers wrestled the firearm off from a policeman before beating him up.

They also used a car to bump another while a third policemen sustained a deep laceration to his left palm when he placed his hand over his head to block the blade of a bush knive being swung at him.

All three of them were rescued by police reinforcements and taken to the Port Moresby General hospital for treatment.

The 20 suspects now in police custody will be charged with attempted murder, grievous bodily harm, in posession of live ammunition and dangerous drugs and other related charges.

Meanwhile Police will return to the settlement at 3pm this afternoon to round up more suspects involved in attacking the three law enforcement officers.
