PNG Confirms second case of COVID-19

Papua New Guinea has confirmed another case of COVID-19 or coronavirus in the country.

PNG Prime Minister James Marape has just announced one more new case from the East New Britain Province this afternoon.

This now brings the total number of confirmed cases in the country to two so far.

Mr. Marape said that three tests were carried out on persons of interest, and two were returned negative, while one was confirmed positive, and that was from a 40-year-old local female.

He said that authorities have moved in and contained her in her village, and will conduct a backtrace on her and find out how many people she may have come in contact with.

The Prime Minister has urged everyone not to panic because the government has already put in place mechanisms to contain the spread.
