We must chart our own destiny, says Duma

Parliamentary Leader of the United Resource Party and Minister for Commerce and Industry William Duma while signing the Memorandum of Understanding with PANGU Party said Papua New Guineans must rise up to chart our own destiny.

Minister Duma said it is about time Papua New Guineans step up and take charge of our natural resources.

URP always believes in mobilising Papua New Guineans to chart the future of this country in managing the country’s natural resources.
This URP policy is to empower the people of PNG to have full and complete control of all the non-renewable resources such as Oil, Gas, Gold, Copper, etc…

Minister Duma said Papua New Guineans must be in charge of our own future.

“We must confirm the thing that we already own such as the ownership of our natural resources.

“That is what United Resource party always believe in and it is also in recognition to the National goals and directive principals formulated by our founding fathers. One of the goals and directive principles is for our own people to be in charge of our economy.

“If we have to manage our gold mines, our forestry, and our various natural resources so be it,” Minister Duma said.

He said the time is right and this country is very fortunate to have a Prime Minister who believes in giving economic independence to our people.

Minister Duma said although we are a developing country who depends entirely on foreign investment but it is about time we be in charge of our natural resources.

He said that is one of the principles that the United Resources Party always believes in.

The journey of URP and PANGU started on the 23rd of May 2019 around 2:30pm when Minister Duma led his team from the Crown camp to join the PANGU team led by Prime Minister Marape at Laguna Hotel.

Minister Duma said the signing of the agreement is just to make public the already established relationship URP had with PANGU.
URP is one of the founding coalition party in the Marape-Steven government and Minister Duma said his party is committed to work with Prime Minister Marape.

Minister Duma said URP is in support of Prime Minister Marape statement of making Papua New Guinea the richest black Christian nation in the world and that was shown through the signing of the agreement.

The PANGU led government are fighting for equal benefit sharing in all resources projects in the country and the amendment of the Oil and Gas Act 2020 and the Mining Act 2020 is an assurance to this nation that leaders of like-minded parties such as URP and PANGU are leading this country towards economic independence.
