PNG Politics : Namah Calls on PM Marape to Resign
PNG Opposition leader, Belden Namah, has called on Prime Minister James Marape to resign effective immediately.
Mr. Namah made this call soon after the Supreme Court ruling this morning.
Speaking outside the courthouse, Mr. Namah said they are ready for Parliament to convene next Monday.
''We are ready to go into Parliament on the 14th of December, I asked the Speaker of Parliament to do the right thing, he has asked for it, he wanted the court to order him, the court has now made a decision and made the order accordingly that the Parliament be recalled at 10am Monday morning.,'' said Namah.
This newsroom is waiting to attend a press conference by the Government anytime from now to get comments from Prime Minister James Marape on the court ruling and Mr. Namah's call.
However, the prime minister on his Facebook wall had made a statement and appealed to all citizens to respect the ruling of the High Court.
The Prime Minister adds, despite the unsettling political climate, there is no vacancy in the office of PM, the executive government is in place doing its work until proper parliamentary processes affirm or denounce his PM seat.
Marape said he is not going to resign as one or two opposition politicians called out as there are no grounds for that.
He urged Beldon Namah who claims to have the majority to produce that majority on the floor of parliament where it matters most and not in locked-up hotels.
In the meantime, Marape said he is blessed to have 55 Members of Parliament who continue to give him their personal and people’s support.
Marape said the 55 MPs he had on his side and other Leaders whose souls cannot be bought or sold and he is proud to associate himself self with those class of leaders.
