The Simbu community in Port Moresby have gathered in numbers with their leaders under the wet weather condition today in a true Simbu way to pay their last respect to the Grand Chief at the national wake (Hauskrai) this evening.

They were rubbing mud, holding play cards with words, banners, most wearing black, walked all the way from Unagi Oval to the Sir John Guise stadium.

Most gathered reflects on Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare's relationship with some of the prominent leaders of Simbu, in the likes of late Iambakei Okuk, Sir Joseph Nombri, Ignatius Kilage, Kobale Kale, Wauglo Goiye,  among others.

The Simbu /Sepik connections go a long way, and most of the leaders who spoke have emphasized on.

The current elected leaders who lead the Simbu community includes the member for Sinesine Youngomulg Kerenga Kua, Guminie Nick Kuman, Kerowagi Robert Palma, Kundiawa Gembolg William Onglo, Chuave Wera Mori and Simbu Governor Michael Dua.

Governor Michael Dua presented gifts like bilums and spears to the East Sepik Governor Allan Bird on behalf of the people of Simbu.
