Sir Hubert Murray Stadium filled to capacity as PNG farewells Grand Chief

 Papua New Guinea farewells late Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare today at the place (Sir Hubert Murray Stadium)  where he lowered the Australian flag and raised the flag of his beloved country Papua New Guinea .


According to Police Media, the Sir Hulbert Murray Stadium is now filled to capacity for the State Funeral for Late Grand Chief Sir Micheal Somare.

Those who are not able to enter the stadium have been advised to watch the state  funeral on television and live broadcast from radio and internet livestreaming. 

"We advise for residents to stay home and watch the live telecast on TV, FB live streaming or line the streets where the convoy will pass through to pay respects to our late leader''

Prime Minister James Marape announced  that the country will grieve for the next two weeks which ends today. 

The government approved Monday 1st of March and Friday 12th of March to be a nationwide public holiday to honour and pay respect to the late Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare.

The cabinet has also  declared that this date, 26th of February, will be a National Day of Remembrance.

Today, 12th March, the body of late Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare is brought to Sir Hubert Murray Stadium where people are expected to pay their last respect.

The body departs for his home town Wewak on the 13th before he is laid to rest at his residential area in Wewak.
