Catholic Priest in Tapini shot by criminals
A Catholic Priest is nursing Gun Shot wounds at the Health Centre in Tapini, Goilala District in the Central Province, after criminals attempted to hold him up at the Arapokina Junction of Mekeo and Tapini.
The incident happened at 6pm yesterday evening when the priest was driving by the junction and a vehicle pulled up beside his car with certain youths in the vehicle signalling him to pull over.
According to Provincial Police Commander for Central Province, Laimo Asi, when the priest saw that those passengers in the vehicle next to him were criminals, he sped past but they fired couple of shots at him and the bullets penetrated through the vehicle and hit him.
“The matter was reported and my CID team are conducting their investigation into the incident and arrest will soon follow,” said PPC Asi.
Meantime, PPC Asi also confirmed that at around 2am this morning a family traveling on the highway to Boera were involved in a fatal accident that saw a youngster and an adult both killed after their vehicle ran off the road.
"My men have been deployed to the accident scene and we should have full details on how and what was the cause of the accident. several other passengers received serious injuries and have been rushed to the nearest health center for treatment as the deceased were brought straight to the morgue," said Mr Asi.
