PNG National Housing Commission to start massive job cuts

The positions will be made redundant in what the Housing and Urbanization Minister Justin Tkatchenko described as “Quality over Quantity” in the new look NHC.

The new PNG National Housing Corporation (NHC) staff structure is well underway with a massive slash of 103 NHC employees nationwide.

Minister Tkatchenko says from the current number of 322 NHC staff nationwide, the restructure will see it being reduced to 219 with all positions to be re-advertised before the end of this year.

This comes after the new Housing Minister instructed the NHC acting Managing Director Elizabeth Bowada and staff to make changes particularly on wages and salaries.

In a press conference this afternoon, Minister Tkatchenko says the restructure will save NHC K5 million annually in salaries alone.

He adds most of the staffs have been doing absolutely nothing but getting free pays.

The new staff structure which has been endorsed by the NHC Board will be handed over to the Public Service Minister to get the final endorsement for advertisement.
