Despite the authorities' attempts to prevent citizens from accessing the main business centers in Lae, law enforcement was overpowered, leading to rampant looting. Tragically, there are reports of lives lost during the chaos.

An unconfirmed number of deaths have been reported in Lae, with the toll exceeding three. Two of the reported deaths occurred in One Mile and were confirmed by Morobe Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Supt Jacob Singura. Another death in Lae is believed to have resulted from police gunfire, though this remains unverified.

Police presence remains strong at the main entry points to the city, with efforts to push people back from entering the central business districts. However, some individuals have managed to breach the police lines, causing extensive damage to properties in the process.

The escalating crisis has had severe repercussions on the city's daily operations. Public Motor Vehicle (PMV) buses and taxi services have come to a standstill, and almost all companies and government departments have ceased operations for the day. In response to the deteriorating situation, Morobe Provincial Government employees have been instructed to stay home, with normal duties expected to resume next Monday.

The tense atmosphere in the city persists, and law enforcement, supported by personnel from the Papua New Guinea Defense Force stationed at Igam Barracks, is actively monitoring the situation. The community anxiously awaits further updates as authorities work to restore order in Lae.
